MAC's Incredible 9 Shine at Olympic Trials
MAC had nine swimmers racing June 19-23, 2021 at the Canadian Olympic Trials at the Toronto Pan Am Centre. Our #Incredible9 swimmers represented MAC brilliantly all week, displaying the technical talent and mental toughness it takes to compete against Canada's elite swimmers. The results were an impressive number of medal finishes, personal bests and new club records, with eight of the nine making finals in their events and one being named to Canada's Olympic Swimming Team. Here are the highlights:

Summary:
Tessa Cieplucha: Olympic Qualifier 400 IM! Currently 13th in the World. Silver Medal 400IM
Alexander Axon: 100% LTBs with 3 medals (2- Silver 1- Bronze)
Elan Daley: 100 % LTBs with a Club Record. (*HPSC-Ont)
Nina Kucheran: 2 Finals & a major breakthrough 100/200 Breast placing 4th in 2:27.54
Nina Mollin: New Club record in the 200m Breaststroke and 7th place, made 3 Finals.
Sara Moulson: 8th in the 200m Backstroke under the old club record!
Dylan Scholes: 8th in the 50m Freestyle & setting the club record in the 50 Free
Lukas Wormald: 50 Free LTB going under 24 at :23.82, 14th in the 100m Butterfly.
Mabel Zavaros: Silver Medal in the 200 Butterfly, 3 New Club records, Silver medal 200 fly
Day 1: Mabel Zavaros and Lukas Wormald entered in the 100m Butterfly, Dylan Scholes in 100m Backstroke and Alexander Axon in the 400m Freestyle final. Mabel advanced to finals in the 100m Butterfly and finished 4th overall with a time of 59.16, a personal best and a new MAC club record. Alexander Axon took a bronze medal in the 400m Freestyle with a time of 3:53.66, setting a new personal best and smashing his own MAC club record (his old was 3:54.23 just set a month earlier).
Day 2: Tessa Cieplucha, Elan (Lilly) Daley and Alexander Axon raced in the 200m Freestyle and Nina Kucheran entered in the 100m Breaststroke. Lilly Daley achieved a new personal best of 2:01.65. Alexander Axon advanced to finals and swam a new personal best time of 1:50.95 finishing 5th in the highly competitive Men's field. Nina Kucheran had a strong race with a time of 1:08.59, finishing 6th overall.
Day 3: MAC had four swimmers competing in the 200m IM events: Tessa Cieplucha, Nina Mollin and Sara Moulson in the Women's and Lukas Wormald in the Men's. Tessa and Nina M. advanced to finals. Tessa raced to a time of 2:14.36 and Nina M finished in 2:18.23,, placing them 6th and 8th overall. Alexander Axon raced in the Men's 1500m Freestyle and took a silver medal with a time of 15:26.16, crushing his personal best by 22.5 seconds. Dylan Scholes had a great race in the Women's 50m Freestyle final with a time of 26:06.
Day 4: This was another successful day for our MAC swimmers entered in the Women's 200m Breaststroke, 100m Freestyle and 200m Butterfly. All four swimmers advanced to finals. Nina Kucheran swim to a fourth overall in the 200m Breastroke with a time of 2:27.54, setting a new personal best and new MAC record. Nina Mollin swam an incredible 2:37.11 and a new club record for the 15-17 year age group. Lilly Daley set a new personal best and a new club record with a time of 55.93 in the 100m Freestyle. Mabel Zavaros took a silver medal in the 200m Butterfly with a time of 2:12.19.
Day 5: All three MAC swimmers in the Women's preliminary 200m Backstroke advanced to finals. Sara Moulson set a new personal best with a time of 2:15.00 and then beat that with another personal best of 2:14.47 in the final. Dylan Scholes also set a new personal best in 2:16.16. Tessa Cieplucha and Nina Mollin competed in the Women's 400IM final. Tessa put in an absolutely brilliant swim, in a time of 4:37.26 taking over 1.5 seconds off her previous best, beating the Olympic A qualifying time and guaranteeing her nomination to Canada's Olympic Team. Alexander Axon then finished out MAC's amazing week at Trials with another silver medal swim, knocking nearly a second off his personal best in the Men's 800m Freestyle with a time of 8:04.19.
Thursday June 24: MAC swimmer Tessa Cieplucha was officially named by Swimming Canada to the Canadian Olympic Swimming Team for qualifying in the 400IM event at Trials. She will compete at the 2020 Summer Olympic games in Tokyo Japan, July 31-August 8, 2021.
