MAC MEETS 101

MAC hosts about eight large swimming competitions at the world-class 50m Markham Pan Am Centre each swim season. These meets are attended by thousands of swimmers of all age groups from across Ontario and beyond. MAC meets are organized and officiated by MAC volunteers and sanctioned by Swim Ontario/Swimming Canada. Hundreds of certified MAC parent volunteers undertake the timing, stroke & turn judging and marshalling required to run each meet.

Coaches - NOT PARENTS - sign swimmers up for swim meets. Your coach will sign your swimmer up for meets and events as appropriate and will notify you by email. You can discuss availability and scheduling directly with your child's coach.

ALL MAC swimmers are expected to participate in swim meets. Depending on the swimmer level, swim meets usually take place several weekends per month. In addition to the meets that are hosted by MAC, your swimmer may compete at events hosted by other clubs. Swim meets allow swimmers to set officially recorded times, measure their personal progress and prepare to compete at higher-level competitions. Swim meets are fun! Swimmers interact with teammates and swimmers from other clubs. They also gain competition experience, receive valuable feedback from coaches and enjoy the satisfaction of accomplishing goals.

Parents participate in meets!

It's not just about cheering from the stands. On a competition weekend, you'll find hundreds of MAC parents volunteering on deck and behind the scenes.

Every MAC family is expected to have at least one member becoming trained and volunteering to officiate. Volunteering sets a good example for your child, lets you interact with other parents, learn more about the sport and helps keep your costs down. Learn more about your officiating commitment.
