Volunteering requirement

MAC has a Volunteer System in place to ensure equitable sharing of workload. Every MAC family is expected to have at least one member volunteering.

All MAC members pay a volunteer commitment fee. The volunteer commitment fee is charged to your account per your swimmer(s) group fee schedule on the 1st of the month for 6 months (Oct 1st to March 1st). This fee can be credited back to you IF you volunteer. The vast majority of members earn their volunteer points by officiating at MAC swim meets. To earn volunteer points by officiating you must:

1. Attend Officials Training Clinics, AND
2. Volunteer for a set number of swim meet sessions

The chart below shows the officials training you must obtain based on the highest group of swimmer in your family. If you have never “officiated” before, don’t worry! MAC provides free training clinics in Fall, Winter and Spring.Your time to attend training clinics is credited to your account. MAC’s Officials Manager will email you the clinic sign-up information. If you are a returning family that attended clinics in the past, at least one family member must upgrade skills to move up the officials "ladder" this season.

If you only have swimmer(s) in OPA1/OPA2/OPB/OPC/OPD/OPDEV, you are required to officiate at 4 sessions this season.  If you only have swimmer(s) in OPAA or OPDEV+, your requirement is 6 sessions. If you have swimmer(s) in competitive groups Senior/Junior/Bronze/Bantam/JAG/TAG, your requirement is 12 sessions. “Sessions” are usually 4-5 hours during a 2–4-day meet. There are ample opportunities to fulfill your requirement. MAC is hosting up to 8 meets from October to July. You can work multiple sessions at MAC meets. We will email you sign-up information. You can indicate how many sessions you wish to work.

Financial Penalties: If you do not attend training and/or volunteer for your TOTAL required sessions by the end of the season you will not receive back any remaining pre-paid volunteer commitment fees and you will also be charged a penalty to the credit card on file.

MAC Time Trial Volunteering: Members who have swimmer(s) participating in MAC time trials are still expected to officiate. Time trials do not necessarily qualify for volunteer points because swimmers are not charged to compete.

Student Volunteer Hours: MAC swimmers attending secondary school may earn community service hours by attending training clinics and officiating. Student volunteering does not count toward the family’s officiating commitment.

Extra Volunteering credits:  In addition to fulfilling your officiating commitment, you can earn extra volunteer credit by being a group parent rep, serve on the Board or committees, help with events, chaperone during travel events etc.

MAC Officials Attire: Every MAC official is required to wear a white or red polo shirt on deck, according to their position, with black bottoms. You can pick up a MAC officials shirt at the MAC office.

Other Ways to Earn Volunteer Points:
In addition to officiating, you can earn EXTRA volunteer (points) credit by serving as a group parent rep, be elected to the Board, help with fundraising, chaperone during travel events, help with event organizing, manage teamwear and much more.

The tables below show specific points earned for officiating, obtaining higher officials training, and other volunteer tasks. Points are considered equivalent to dollar amounts. If you have more than one swimmer with the club, your commitment is only for the points of the highest level swimmer.
